It’s October. The weather is cooler, the leaves are changing, and pumpkin spice has taken over everything.

You’re also in the home stretch of the year. Your team is working hard, the holidays are approaching, and deadlines are growing closer. They could use a bit of spooky fun.

Instead of planning a team outing to Camp Crystal Lake (0 out of 10, don’t recommend), we decided to put together some fun spooky-season-themed energizers and icebreakers for you to enjoy with your hybrid team.

1. Pumpkin Decorating

Let’s face it — pumpkin carving is messy. And pumpkin carving over Zoom? Forget it. This fun icebreaker allows your team to show their creative side — without the smelly pumpkin guts.

Instructions

  1. Turn on Private Mode
  2. Set a timer for 3-5 min
  3. Play some spooky music while everyone is decorating their pumpkin
  4. Once the timer is up, turn off Private Mode
  5. Vote for your favorite!

Don’t forget to tag us on LinkedIn when you share your pumpkins!

2. Skeleton Vibe Check

This quick check-in is perfect if you’re short on time. Quickly check the pulse of your team at the beginning of a meeting or have them do this asynchronously before your next meeting.

Instructions

  1. Turn on Private Mode
  2. Set a timer for 1-2 min
  3. Play some spooky music while everyone is choosing their skeleton
  4. Once the timer is up, turn off Private Mode
  5. Go around and share why you chose that skeleton
Try the Skeleton Vibe Check template before your next meeting.

3. Scarecrow Costume Contest

Why scour Amazon for a last-minute costume when you have an unlimited wardrobe in Mural? Okay, maybe the clothes don’t fit you, but you can see how fashionable your team members are with this goofy activity. Dress up your scarecrow any way you want (brains are optional) and vote whose scarecrow is best dressed!

Instructions

  1. Turn on Private Mode
  2. Set a timer for 3-5 min
  3. Play some spooky music while everyone is dressing up their scarecrow
  4. Once the timer is up, turn off Private Mode
  5. Vote for the best-looking scarecrow!

4. October Water Cooler

Looking for a good horror film? Maybe a scary book to get you in the Halloween spirit? Look no further than this October Water Cooler. Have each team member drop in their favorite Halloween tricks, treats, screams, and potions in this mural. This can be done either synchronously or asynchronously!

Instructions

  1. Select a category
  2. Turn on Private Mode
  3. Set a timer for 1-2 min
  4. Play some spooky music while people fill in the section
  5. Once the timer is up, turn off Private Mode
  6. Share your answers!
Share your favorite spooky finds with your team in this October Water Cooler template.

Team building isn’t just a bunch of hocus pocus

Going hybrid has presented fewer opportunities to get together in person. But that doesn’t mean you have to skip out on the team building! They establish trust, connection, and respect in a fun, playful environment. If you’re looking for more warm-ups and energizers, 25 icebreakers for virtual meetings, or icebreakers for small groups, we have you covered.

From all of us at Mural, have a happy and safe Halloween! 🎃
