Add links to sticky notes and manage members faster

Web Release

πŸ™Œ Sticky notes are great to synthesize concepts. But, sometimes you just need to add a little more context. That’s why you can now attach a link directly to a sticky.

πŸ™Œ You can now sort murals byΒ creation date.

πŸ’ͺ We made a significant refactor that should improve real time connectivity.

πŸ’ͺ Expanded the mural a bit too much? You can now undo and redo to retrieve the latest size.

πŸ’ͺ Comments won’t block arrange and distribute options anymore, woohoo!

πŸ’ͺ The shortcuts sidebar is now fully accessible for keyboard-only users.

πŸ’ͺ We improved the padding in the Outline so that it's pretty for our upcoming Activities release

πŸ’ͺ No one really wanted the pre-populated caption that appeared on searched images, so we removed it.

πŸ’ͺ Member list - We added new interactions to it. When you select some (but not all) rows on a page, you will now see a β€œ-β€œ (minus) in the bulk checkbox. If you click on it, it will unselect all selected rows.

πŸ’ͺ Member List - Inactive members/guests will now appear with their avatar gray-scaled and a bit more transparent than active users.

πŸ’ͺ Member List - When downloading the CSV, the invited by field used to have a username. Now it will contain that user’s email address.

πŸ’ͺ Accessibility - the share modal has now been fully redesigned in terms of accessibility.

πŸ’ͺ Transfer content ownership - When transferring someone’s content, unshared murals within private rooms weren’t being transferred. Now, all content will be transferred to the designated user.

πŸ’ͺ Deleting Rooms - We added a validation that will check if a room is empty or not when you try to delete it. If it has murals in it, it will let you know how many murals you are about to delete and will ask for your confirmation before allowing you to delete the room.

πŸ› There was no way to remove a link from an image or sticky, the clear button wasn’t working as expected.

πŸ› A sticky would lose its attached link when changing its format.

πŸ› The connectors stayed behind the content when organizing to an area.

πŸ› The link to a specific mural’s element was missing the initial "https://β€œ, which other apps didn't recognize as a hyperlink.

πŸ› The title element would lose the text cursor when changing its font or background color.

πŸ› The file’s image would reload each time it appeared on screen again after panning or zooming.

πŸ› When deleting an element while moving it around, it stayed as a ghost widget for the other online collaborators.

πŸ› Changing the stickies' type would detach their connected lines and arrows.

πŸ› Sidebar and top-bar menus were accessible by using `tab` during draw mode.

πŸ› File upload wasn't working in IE11 on Windows 10.

πŸ› The canvas top-bar and side-bar where not actionable when the performance warning was on screen (1000+ elements).

πŸ› If there are no votes cast during a voting session, closing the session will just end the session instead of showing you the results from the previous session

πŸ™Œ Smart inking: If you want to create perfect shapes and connectors, just change the drawing mode from Free Inking to Auto Shape. You can also create titles by selecting the Smart Text option and by drawing with the pen tool.

πŸ’ͺ Brightcove videos can also be played from inside the mural.

πŸ’ͺ Want to quickly connect your ideas together? Switch to Auto Shape and draw a line between them. If your drawing includes an end arrow, we will automatically change it to the correct type of connector.

πŸ› We fixed a large number of bugs.

πŸ’ͺ Never lose track of the big picture while adding sticky notes. Hitting Done will bring you back to your previous zoom level, so you can see everything as you left it off.

πŸ’ͺ To open locked files, just click on them and use the Open option in the context menu.

πŸ’ͺ You can now zoom out to see the complete mural, even the larger ones and in small screens.

πŸ› The mural wouldn't respond well to remote changes of size.

πŸ› We will not create lines and dots anymore when you were trying to zoom into a sticky while editing.

πŸ› As usual, we killed a lot of bugs and work hard on improving performance and connectivity.

πŸ’ͺ Alerts are looking prettier, they are all following our latest design guidelines.

πŸ’ͺ Active Murals will now be the default value for every room. This means that, should you decide to switch to archived murals, if you go to another room, you will see the active ones, instead of the archived.

πŸ’ͺ Some accessibility enhancements to improve the existing experience.

πŸ’ͺ Choosing a template from the Template section will open it in a new tab so it’s easier to keep browsing

πŸ’ͺ The "Cheat Sheet" will replace the tutorial video for first-time collaborators when they enter their first mural.

πŸ’ͺ Only other facilitators will be able to unlock what facilitators lock down so collaborators can’t mess up their murals.

πŸ› The order of the items in the Outline will now be saved correctly in Firefox.

πŸ› If you’re the only one voting, you won’t see the β€œThere are still people voting” popup if you end your voting session with remaining votes.

πŸ› Any email received by a non signed in user that contained a button (link) to MURAL would take you to sign in and not to the appropriate page. Now it's fixed and links are getting you to where you were supposed to go.

πŸ› When you deleted your only workspace, and pressed the back button, you would get a β€œNot found” message. We fixed this.

πŸ› After a voting session, the toolbar would overlap selected elements in the mural.

πŸ› Elements that are inside a framework disappeared when you moved the framework.

πŸ› Sometimes, double click to edit failed in Chrome.

πŸ› When double clicking really close to a sticky note, we created a new sticky that would overlap with the one in the mural.

πŸ› We weren't showing a hand cursor when hovering over the mural's dropdown, which made it look broken.

πŸ› Some line-breaks on text boxes were not applying correctly.

Custom mural sizes and security

Web Release

πŸ™Œ Thinking about crafting a mural for a very specific activity or device? You can now set your own custom size to your murals in the mural settings page.

πŸ’ͺ When someone signs up to MURAL and their company has 1 or more discoverable workspaces, they land to a page with a list of all discoverable (free to join or request based) workspaces. This list will now be sorted by member count.

πŸ’ͺ If you want to change the mural's size or color, quickly access the settings modal from the right-click menu.

πŸ’ͺ We used to have a footer with an always on top row with pagination commands in it in the manage members page. We gave it some thought, ran some tests, and came to the conclusion that it was better off without the bottom commands, leaving only the ones on top. Now the footer will only appear when you reach the end of that page’s list.

Windows v1.44

Windows Release

πŸ™Œ Videos can now be played inside the mural, like in the web app (YouTube and Vimeo for now. Brightcove coming next).

πŸ’ͺ We are making crystal clear why a Surface Hub may not be able to create murals (either having an expired workspace, a deactivated account, or restricted permissions).

πŸ’ͺ We became a little smarter detecting lines, and we won't show the conversion toolbar when drawing a doodle.

πŸ› When duplicating an image, one of them where not appearing anymore when re loaded.

πŸ› Sometimes dragging and dropping an element from the sidebar menu didn't behave well.

πŸ› Icons could get pixelated when scaled.

πŸ› Files footer wasn't rendering correctly.

πŸ’ͺ We added the user status (active/inactive) to the workspace member list export (download as csv).

πŸ’ͺ The top bar is now responsive, it won't break with resizing or opening the sidebars anymore.

πŸ’ͺ We are working on making drawing on a computer as easy as it can be. Drawings are now smoother than before.

πŸ’ͺ The mini-map has a new look! It now adapts to different mural sizes without taking up a lot of real state.

πŸ’ͺ The mural settings page is now a modal, so you don't leave and reload the mural when you want to change the background color or size.

πŸ’ͺ Alerts inside the mural now follow our latest design guidelines.

πŸ’ͺ The widget's toolbar appears and disappears with a beautiful animation.

πŸ’ͺ Enjoy the performance boost when zoomed into a sector of a huge mural.

πŸ’ͺ Surface Hub is identified as his own kind of user/member. This will allow us for advanced admin features and also so bill them differently if we want to.

πŸ› Sometimes double click fails in Windows Chrome. We think we managed to make it work when double clicking to create a new sticky note, but it may keep failing when trying to enter edition.

πŸ› When editing a sticky note, the text would sometimes crop on Chrome browsers.

πŸ› Shapes borders looked really bad in Edge and IE.

πŸ› When switching the sticky note's size, you couldn't type in it anymore without re-selecting it.

πŸ› Double clicking when the eraser inside draw mode would create a sticky note.

πŸ› Comments don't get sent anymore when clicking outside the thread without saving.

Deactivation, Multi-workspace onboarding release 1, and zoom to elements

Web Release

πŸ™Œ Member / Guest deactivation

πŸ™Œ Multi-workspace Release 1

πŸ™Œ Want to zoom into a specific element or selection? Use the new selection toolbar option to directly focus on them with no manual zooming.

πŸ’ͺ Anyone invited to a workspace or a room will see the educational onboarding callouts in the dashboard (previously we didn’t give them any kind of welcome)

πŸ’ͺ The navigation callout will be the first callout new users see when they enter a mural for the first time, even if there are multiple areas (like we do for visitors).

πŸ’ͺ Enjoy the performance boost when zoomed into a sector of a huge mural (only for murally-org team, let us know what you think)

πŸ’ͺ Are you confortable using keyboard shortcuts? If so, learn all about how to zoom out, zoom in and go to 100% directly in the navigation control buttons tooltip.

πŸ’ͺ Check out the Zoom setting menu to see if your browser has some unsupported functionality that is preventing you to have an optimal navigation experience.

πŸ’ͺ The default navigation for anyone who creates an account with SSO in Mac is now trackpad. We also recommend trackpad mode to all Mac users that are using the mouse zoom configuration.

πŸ’ͺ We are continually working on making the interface look as polished as possible. We included a sidebar transition when going out of draw mode (and removed an ugly glitch), we polish up the widgets toolbar, as well as the navigation callouts.

πŸ› Fixed multiple issues around exports, like file preview and shapes border not showing up.

πŸ› Pasting a text with Japanese characters broke the mural (Sumimasen!)

πŸ› August 2018 calendar in Frameworks section had some day numbers missing.

πŸ› Using some F keys, like F15, would write it as a text in some elements.

πŸ› Shapes borders used to change depending on the zoom, now it always respect it’s size. (edited)
